Alan has been part of my life since childhood because of his faithful friendship to my mum and dad, for which I will always be grateful. His love for life, God, his family and friends and for the wonders of creation has always been a source of infectious and kind joy. His very being seemed to be able to capture the wonders of life in the purest of ways - by love. Thank you, Alan, for being a part of the story of my life. You are on the most amazing journey of faith and wonder now - enjoy!!

Alan was a great guy. Together with Carole they were our Corps Officers at Stockport for many years. Alan was always very caring and encouraging to me as Bandmaster. He was a great supporter of the band and supported me in every way. He had a great sense of humour. On my 50th birthday Sunday he asked the band to play the tune through before the meeting so that the congregation would remember the song. I got up to conduct the band only to hear they played *Happy birthday*. All previously arranged by Alan. Typical Alan! He would play with the band regularly and I remember him stepping in to play principal Euphonium when the band went on a week-end visit to London. Miriam reminds me that he loved young people and supported the Singing Company so well when she was leader. Few days before Alan passed away, we spent some time on the telephone when he was caring for Miriam and myself. Caring to the last. Can,t quite believe he has gone, but we rejoice that he will reap his well deserved reward in Heaven. Carole and your lovely family be assured your are in our thoughts and prayers. Many memories of visiting Alan and Carole with my mum and dad (Barbara & Norman) on those trips back north when young. Last met Alan & Carole at Newent on one of their trips to cornwall when breaking the journey with a cup of tea and a catch up with his cousin, my mum. Always followed family life though the parents...so saddened at the news of Alans passing.

Colin and Margaret - We briefly shared a pathway with dear friend Alan, who took much pleasure in wandering through the Dales and Lakes close to the region of his birth. We give grateful thanks that Alan, a man of firm Christian faith, crossed our time-line albeit for a brief period.
